Corporate Training and Safety Videos

What Are Training Videos?

Corporate training videos are a growing trend to improve efficiency, consistency of training and lowering long term unseen costs. Businesses are continually looking for ways to innovate and improve their efficiency and staff training. It is no secret that staffing is one of the most difficult components of running a business. Over time, inconsistent staff training can lead to detrimental changes in a business’s brand and culture. Having a professionally produced video training program can help standardize training as well as reduce the time, labour and expense of constantly training new staff.

Growing Use of Training Videos

Major companies around the world have implemented the use of training videos, especially for safety purposes. Mistakes involving employee safety can have a massive cost on a business in both time, labour, potential lawsuits as well as damage to the company’s reputation. Comprehensive safety videos can help ensure vital topics aren’t missed due to employee indiscretion or a lack of a formal program. They can also often feature demonstrations, animations or examples that would be difficult to show or demonstrate in a live setting. Safety videos can also save valuable time of employees by saving them from having to teach new recruits everything they need to know about their job.

When we produce corporate training videos and safety videos for clients, this is what our process looks like:

1.Topic, Plan and Budget
The first consideration when making a training video program is to determine what the topic or topics are and what needs to be included in it. After we help our clients come up with an outline for the training video program, we determine the best way to produce the videos within the client’s budget. When considering the budget we look at several factors that determine the production cost. These factors include things such as: number of days filming, production value and size of crew required, actors required if any, is animation needed, how long will the final product be, how much footage will we need to go through, and what is required in terms of motion graphics. Once we determine the best way to make a series of training or safety videos that best fits the client’s budget, we move onto the next step.

2. Pre-Production: Storyboarding and Scripting
In this phase we help the client determine all the topics and points that will need to be covered in the videos. Often times we will help the client script what needs to be said in the videos and then also figure out where we will need to shoot the training videos, what props will be needed and what members of their staff or actors will be required and when.

3. Production
In this step we will arrive on the site with typically a crew of at least two and start production of the videos. Often times we’ll shoot videos with two cameras to ensure we have two angles to pick between. We also typically set up lighting to improve production quality and make the safety or training videos more professional. Footage is typically reviewed on site by both our team and the client to ensure the information in the videos is correct and important points aren’t missed.

4. Post Production and Video Editing
Post production will typically start with sorting through the footage and separating it into the different topics in the video series. Once the raw video is cut up and arranged, we’ll add whatever motion graphics, graphics, titles or animations are required. After the rough cut is done, we’ll colour correct the footage so it looks consistent and professional. Next we’ll typically clean up the audio, improve vocals, standardize audio levels and add any royalty free music required. Once post production is complete, the safety videos or training videos are sent to the client for review.

5. Client Review
The client will review the videos at this stage and request any changes or additions. Sometimes clients will want things added that we will need to go back and film.

6. Distribution
Once final client approval is complete, we deliver the safety video or training video series in full resolution for the client to download and distribute as they see fit. Occasionally we will help the client with uploading the videos to their website or a video hosting service for the ease of viewing of their staff or whoever needs the training.
